Lately I’ve been considering my career options. And I realized that I’m definitely not going to pursue singing, even though, don’t get me wrong, it would be awesome to show people my skills. I’m too impatient to learn music on my own; I like instant results. Which is why I’m now considering writing as a book reviewer: I love to read and write and I’m really good at both of them. Especially reading and then writing about novels. I discovered this propensity in high school, when I discovered I could write more than “once upon a time” on a paper (yes, in elementary school I turned in an in-class essay with just “once upon a time” written on it).
Once I carved my writers’ block into a better outlook on writing, I kind of loved it. Then I saw what I could do with my words, and I really loved it. It’s been a really long time since I turned in a paper in a literature course that didn’t get an A. however, I never considered trying to make a career out of it, but now I know that I have to do something, and soon. I graduate from UC Merced next year and then….who knows?
So that’s where I am right now, considering my options. Maybe “once upon a time” will be a sentence finished by “I got a job because someone awesome liked this blog.”
